Description of Strategy & Evolution

Strategy & Evolution are two weekend camps for young people aged between 8 and 18. We create the event site on a field in Cirencester Park and during the event have access to over 3,000 acres of woodland and grassed tracks. During the weekends we offer a wide range of activities that can include : Climbing, Caving, Archery, Rifles, Inflatables and many more smaller activities.

Strategy & Evolution are offering young people working towards the Kings Scout Award and/or the Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award the opportunity to complete the Residential Section at the Camp Site. You will spend a minimum of 4 nights & 5 days assisting in a range of roles. You will not have worked as a volunteer during the build before and you will be working with other volunteers you will not previously have met.

Programme

The residential offers a mix of social and volunteering activities, based in Cirencester Park and the surrounding areas.

We will provide two adventurous off-site activities such as stand-up paddleboarding and climbing durning the residential. The evenings provide some well-earned downtime to socialise with other participants and volunteers.

Volunteer Duties

Volunteers completing their residential at the camp site will help to transform the site for around 3,000 people. This will involve helping to put up tents, signage, erect fences, decorating the site and much more. The tasks are always varied as the week progresses and more infrastructure arrives.

Where will you be staying

We will provide a space in the field to camp. We have several large marquees that serve as our base and we use one of these as a kitchen and lounge area as recreational space. The chances are you will be involved in cooking some of your own meals. Don’t panic if you can’t cook, there will be loads of other volunteers there with you. When the day is done we relax in the build area and chat about the day and plans for tomorrow.

Transport Links

We are based about a 5 minute drive from the centre of Cirencester. If you don’t have your own transport we can pick you up from Cirencester or Kemble station (15 minute drive).

What you should bring

Suitable clothing: Outdoor clothes, you will be outdoors in all weather conditions – nothing too precious as clothing can get dirty or damaged.  Bring your warm jacket and sturdy boots, e.g. waterproof hiking boots.

Clothes, shoes and a towel for water activities.

A tent, sleeping bag and roll mat. We will provide crockery and utensils.

Summary

Strategy & Evolution is a fantastic site where you will have lots of fun. We have an existing volunteer team of around 30 people who help during the build process. You will quickly become part of that team, and have the opportunity to stay on for one or both weekend events. Volunteering at S&E is, great fun but hard work. You will need to enjoy the outdoors and be ready for a week like no other.
